Decarbonisation

Decarbonisation is a key area of action for our R&D&I department.

In addition to working on the partial and total electrification of equipment, at the level of complete plants, we aim to reduce natural gas consumption by carrying out studies to improve energy efficiency through CFD simulations and to optimise processes by combining the new digitalisation technologies available.

Electrification

One of the main decarbonisation routes adopted by Insertec is the electrification of equipment that until now has been powered by natural gas. This measure is key to the decarbonisation of the sector, avoiding direct carbon dioxide emissions, which are the main product of natural gas combustion, thus reducing the Carbon Footprint during the useful life of our equipment. In addition, the electric heating technology in the melting and maintenance processes provides better metallurgical performance, as it avoids the generation of slag due to the direct heating process and minimal oxidation of the material.

From the technical point of view, we are working on different projects both for revamping existing equipment and new electrical equipment:

  • Heat treatment furnaces.
  • Hybrid solutions for melting with natural gas and electrical maintenance.
  • Integral solutions for fusion and electrical maintenance.

Energy Efficiency

In all our projects, we work on the engineering of the processes to determine how to improve them. We carry out environmental impact studies, using CFD simulations of both gas and electric equipment to calculate the reduction in the environmental footprint of each of our proposed improvements. We understand the key points of each process to propose the best solution.
