Drying is the critical phase of any refractory installation or repair project. Following the theoretical drying curve is a necessary step, but one that, on its own, does not guarantee a durable, high-quality lining.

Factors to consider
Accurate temperature measurement is essential; if necessary, at several points.
Measure the temperature of the furnace chamber.
Use thermocouples appropriate for the drying curve.
Where applicable, install water vapor pressure sensors.

Drying curve: general considerations
The volumes and type of refractory installed, as well as the furnace configuration, must be known in order to calculate the drying curve and determine the amount of equipment to be used, as well as to define the locations of each piece of equipment.
The drying curve associates the temperatures and times required for drying

Monitoring the drying curve
The temperatures of the different thermocouples are monitored in accordance with the drying curve

Completion of drying
Once the final temperature of the curve has been reached, the furnace burners are turned on and the drying equipment is removed
